Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension

Collier Boulevard to 16th Street NE

(Project Manager: Julio Castro)

The Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension project (from Collier Boulevard to 16th Street NE) is an approximately 7-mile extension of the existing roadway.

The construction contract was awarded to Sacyr Construction USA. Overall construction completion is expected in Summer 2026.

A public information meeting was held on Sept. 15, 2022, to update the public on the upcoming construction and anticipated schedule.

The following displays were available at the meeting:

The final roadway design includes the following improvements:

  • New six-lane divided roadway from east of Collier Boulevard to Wilson Boulevard, including new bike lanes and a shared-use path
  • New two-lane undivided roadway from Wilson Boulevard to 16th Street NE including roadway shoulders and a shared-use path; plans allow for a future 4-lane and ultimate 6-lane roadway
  • New roadway includes construction of bridges over the Curry Canal, Corkscrew Canal, and Orange Tree Canal
  • New intersections with traffic signals at Wilson Boulevard, 8th Street NE, and 16th Street NE
  • The existing Cypress Canal along Vanderbilt Beach Road (from west of 31st Street NW to 15th Street NW) to be relocated further south to accommodate the widened roadway
  • Intersections at Weber Boulevard and Danbury Boulevard to connect to the new Vanderbilt Beach Road
  • Intersections at Douglas Street and Greyhawk Trail extend to the new Vanderbilt Beach Road (the old roadway segment to be designated as Old Vanderbilt Beach Road)
  • Massey Street improvements include a new shared-use path (west side) and drainage upgrades with curb and gutter

In November of 2021 the preliminary 100% roadway plans (which are not bidding documents) were completed (click on the following links to download the plans):
