Participating Organizations
RSVP is a program of Senior Corp., which is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service (Corporation). RSVP is a national volunteer agency designed to provide individuals age 55 years and older with the opportunity to share their abilities, interests, and experience with their communities. The Corporation supports service and volunteer programs to improve lives and strengthen communities. Each year, more than 500,000 volunteers age 55+ use their experience, skills and talents through 740 RSVP projects in the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. What is Bone Builders
Bone Builders is a free exercise program designed to prevent and slow the development of osteoporosis. The program consists of exercise training with free weights. It is designed to improve balance and will provide education and a support group opportunity. Bone Builders instructors are trained volunteers who lead classes using a trainer's manual that is periodically reviewed by a licensed physical therapist (most recent review conducted in 2023). Classes are held 2-3 times per week for one hour each. Each class begins with a short warm-up period and ends with a cool-down period. Some of the above exercises provide modifications for participants who may have difficulties performing the exercise due to arthritis, rotator cuff problems, hip/knee replacements, etc.
How to Sign Up
Every participant much have a completed Medical Clearance. This is required every year. If there is a break in exercise due to severe illness or injury, a new clearance will be required before the student will be admitted back into the class. Each participant must also sign a consent form to participate. Bring the two completed documents to your first class. We ask all new members to arrive to their first class 10 minutes early for orientation. We recommend you bring water and a towel to each class.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer to help instruct a class, please complete an RSVP Volunteer Application.
