Collier County Public Library Celebrates Summer Reading Success

Congratulations to all the Collier County Public Library patrons who participated in the “Color Our World” 2025 Summer Reading Program! Across 10 locations, 2,942 adults, teens, and children participated in this year’s program, which ran from June 2 through July 31. During this time, 594 adults completed 2,207 books, while 2,348 teens and children read for a total of 524,625 minutes. The library is proud of the community for coming together to support such an important initiative.

This year’s summer reading theme celebrated art and creativity. In addition to reading, many Collier County residents participated in the library’s themed programming, which included art classes, crafting projects, and STE(A)M activities for all ages. During the eight weeks of “Color Our World,” the library hosted 381 events and programs, attracting 35,460 attendees.

One of the primary goals of the summer reading program is to help younger community members prevent the “summer slide,” a term coined to stop the loss of academic skills and knowledge among children who are out of the classroom during the summer. Reversing the summer slide is critical, as summer learning loss accounts for two-thirds of the ninth-grade achievement gap in reading, according to the National Summer Learning Association. Reading is a powerful tool in maintaining a child's educational interest, and with a vast collection of materials, including print books, eBooks, and audiobooks, Collier County Public Library offers countless opportunities for readers of all ages to stay engaged.

Each Collier County Public Library branch plays an important role in its community, and through the generous support of the Friends of the Library these branches and the communities they serve continue to grow and succeed. Through the Friends continued support, the library is able to offer programs such as “Color Our World” and provide valuable resources to the residents of Collier County throughout the summer and beyond.
