Collier County Beach Renourishment Project Update
The Beach Renourishment Project that started in late October on Vanderbilt and Pelican Bay beaches is nearing completion. Vanderbilt Beach from Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park to Vanderbilt Beach Road is complete as is the work on Pelican Bay Beach from the north pavilion to the Brighton Condominium. The project has taken a short break over the Christmas/New Year’s holidays and the county’s contractor will start again on Jan. 5, 2026. At that time the crews will complete the renourishment project on Vanderbilt Beach from the Brighton Condominium to Vanderbilt Beach Road. That section is expected to be finished in late January.
Thus far 168,000 tons of sand has been sourced from Stewart Materials in Immokalee, delivered by truckloads and spread across the beaches. Another 48 tons of sand is expected to be needed for the last part of the renourishment project.
The overall project cost for both beaches is estimated to be about $7.5 million. Since Vanderbilt Beach is open to the public per County Ordinance 2018-31, the BCC also authorized $5.5 million in Tourist Development tax funding (commonly referred to as the bed tax since those staying in Collier County accommodations pay the tax) for Vanderbilt Beach portion of the project. The Pelican Bay Beach renourishment will be funded by the Pelican Bay Services Division since it is not a public beach.
The beach turnaround at the end of Vanderbilt Beach Road remains closed to traffic for the duration of the project. Beachgoers may also notice some fenced areas around the heavy equipment and other items that remain for when the project resumes operation.
When the contract resumes work in January 2026, hours of operations will again be six days a week, Mondays through Saturdays, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The beach renourishment project aims to be completed as quickly as possible to minimize impacts on beachgoers.
