Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension Phase One Project Opening to Traffic Soon

Collier County Transportation Management Services Department announced today at the Board of County Commissioners meeting that the Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension Project (Collier Boulevard to 16th Street NE) has reached substantial completion and is planned to open to traffic on Friday, June 12, at or shortly after 10 a.m.

The seven-mile roadway project is one of the biggest Collier County has undertaken. The improvements include: a new six-lane divided roadway with pedestrian and bicycle facilities extending from the existing Vanderbilt Beach Road east of Collier Boulevard (CR 951) to west of Wilson Boulevard, where it tapers down to a new two-lane roadway from east of Wilson Boulevard to 16th Street NE. Other enhancements include improvements to Massey Street, and to the existing intersections at Collier Boulevard, Weber Boulevard, Danbury Boulevard, and Douglas Road. New signalized intersections were built at Wilson Boulevard, 8th Street NE, and 16th Street NE.

In addition, there are three new canal bridges, stormwater management ponds, and the canal (south of Vanderbilt Beach Road) from 31st Street NW to 15th Street NW was relocated. The new extension will help relieve congestion on other arterial roadways and is also expected to reduce response times for emergency service providers.

Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension Phase Two, which is being planned to extend the roadway from 16th Street NE to Everglades Blvd., is in the final stages of design and may start construction toward the beginning of next year.

The contractor will be completing punch list items over the next few weeks. A brief ribbon-cutting ceremony is being planned for July 1.  Additional information about that event will be released as soon as details have been determined.
