Autopsy Technician

AUTOPSY TECHNICIAN
District 20 Medical Examiner

3838 Domestic Avenue – Naples, Florida 34104

  • Full-Time Autopsy Technician:  Weekdays 8 AM to 5 PM and Rotating on-call weekends and holidays.  Overtime available, as needed. 
  • Applicant must reside in Collier or Lee County, be a US citizen or have a current US work visa.
  • Please do not apply if you are going back to school, plan to work in law enforcement or crime scene or are not familiar with the work environment.

Preferred Education and Experience:                                                                                

  • Forensics, forensic anthropology, forensic investigations, forensic photography, or experience assisting at a medical examiner's office, laboratory or hospital

Job Description

  • Assist medical examiner with autopsies
  • Work weekdays and rotating on-call weekends and holidays and overtime, as needed
  • Must be available to work during and following county, state or national crises or disasters
  • Prepare body for autopsy, take photographs, x-rays, clean after autopsy
  • Responsible for record keeping, labeling, storing and maintaining chain of evidence
  • Must be able to move a 200-pound deceased person unassisted
  • Must be able to read and write English proficiently.  Must be computer literate
  • Must properly communicate verbally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational skills required
  • Able to work under pressure and maintain composure and a good attitude
  • Must be able to learn and understand medical and legal terminology
  • Must show respect for the deceased, their families, co-workers, supervisors and other agency personnel
  • Must be flexible, assist co-workers and work agreeably in a team environment
  • Carry out other morgue duties, as assigned

Salary

  • Starting salary $25.00/hourly.  Negotiable with experience
  • Benefits: health insurance, retirement, paid holidays, accrued paid time off
  • The District Twenty Medical Examiner is a contracted service. Employees are not county or state employees.

Medical Legal Death Investigator

  • Full-Time Medico-Legal Death Investigator Weekdays 8 AM to 5 PM and Rotating on-call weekends and holidays.  Overtime available, as needed. 
  • Do not apply if you are going back to school, or plan to work in law enforcement or crime scene.
  • Applicant must reside in Collier or Lee County, be a US citizen or have a current US work visa.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Investigations, forensic anthropology, forensic investigations, or experience with work at a medical examiner's office, hospital or laboratory setting.

Job Description

  • Must be able to work weekdays 8 AM to 5 PM and designated rotating evenings, weekends and holidays.  Work during evening, weekends and holidays is from home  
  • Obtain and prioritize information from medical providers, police, families, funeral homes, etc. 
  • Write comprehensive and timely notes and summaries of conversations
  • Complete death certificates and other information
  • Respond to inquiries in a timely manner
  • Must be available to work during and following county, state or national crises or disasters
  • Exceptional organizational skills required
  • Must be able to work under pressure, multi-task and maintain composure and a good attitude
  • Able to communicate with grieving families respectfully and with empathy
  • Must be able to read and write English proficiently
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must be flexible, assist co-workers and work agreeably in a team environment
  • Investigators do not attend death scenes
