Foster Care Program

Open Your Home. Save a Life.

Every animal deserves comfort, safety, and love while waiting for a loving family and you can make that possible.

The Foster Care Program at Collier County Domestic Animal Services gives animals a temporary home where they can relax, heal, grow, and thrive outside of the shelter environment. Whether you foster for a few days, a few weeks, or longer, your support helps save lives and creates space for more animals in need.

Fostering is one of the most rewarding ways to help homeless pets in our community. By opening your home to an animal in need, you provide comfort, socialization, and individualized care that can only happen in a home environment.

We are always looking for compassionate foster families for:

  • Puppies and kittens too young for adoption
  • Animals recovering from surgery or illness
  • Senior pets who need a quieter environment
  • Dogs and cats who need a break from the shelter
  • Pets learning socialization and confidence skills
  • Specialty foster pets, including rabbits and other small animals

Whether you're an experienced pet owner or fostering for the first time, our team is here to support you every step of the way.

We Provide the Supplies. You Provide the Love.

All veterinary care, medications, food, and foster supplies are provided by Collier County Domestic Animal Services. Foster families simply provide a safe, caring environment and help prepare animals for adoption.

Fostering is flexible and can fit many different lifestyles. Even a short-term foster stay can make a life-changing difference for an animal in need.

Become a Foster Hero

When you foster, you are directly helping animals and assisting to find loving homes. Together, we can improve the lives of pets in our community and increase the number of animals saved each year.

To participate in the Foster Care Program, foster caregivers:

  • Are at least 18 years of age
  • Have a genuine concern for animal welfare
  • Are able to follow foster program guidelines and policies
  • Have reliable transportation for scheduled veterinary or shelter visits
  • Provide a safe and caring temporary home environment
