Service Lines
Service lines are underground pipes that carry water from a public water main to water meters located outside homes and businesses.
Collier County Public Utilities has completed a comprehensive inventory of water service lines throughout our service area. We’re proud to report that no lead lines have been identified.

Older pipes made of lead or galvanized steel can corrode over time, potentially allowing trace metals to enter tap water. Identifying these lines is the first step toward ensuring your water is safe.
Under the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule Improvements, all public water systems are required to complete and submit a full inventory of service line materials.
Collier County Public Utilities serves approximately 89,000 water service connections. We reviewed historical records, publicly available construction data, and performed physical inspections to build our complete inventory. No lead service lines were identified in Collier County Public Utilities’ service area. If any future inspection discovers lead in a public water service line, it will be replaced.
Maintaining Public Health and Safety
Collier County’s drinking water does not contain lead when it leaves our treatment plants. Past water testing has shown that lead levels are not a health concern for Collier County Water District customers. However, the risk for lead to enter drinking water can come from corrosion of older plumbing materials in private homes or businesses. We balance water chemistry to reduce corrosion and minimize the chance that lead from older plumbing materials can dissolve into drinking water. The most effective long-term protection, however, is to remove any remaining lead or galvanized water lines and lead-bearing plumbing components.
How We Built the Inventory
Collier County Public Utilities conducted a thorough process to compile information on the water service lines throughout our service area. This inventory was submitted to the EPA as required under the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements. These records will be updated as Collier County Public Utilities gathers additional information.
- Records Review. We reviewed available historical utility and property records to identify the likely materials used in service lines at the time of installation.
- Physical Inspections. Field crews performed physical inspections and small hand digs near water meters to visually confirm service line material. Water sampling was also conducted as part of our lead and copper monitoring program.
