Work Exempt from Permit

Certain qualifying work valued under $7500.00 will be exempt from building permits

Submittal Requirements

Exemption Request: A written request for exemption to include the owner’s name and address, job name and address and a brief description of the work. Include whether this will be contracted or completed as owner builder and a statement that it is understood that all work must meet the requirements of the Florida Building Code, state law and any local ordinances that apply. Copy of the Contract: On contractor letter head demonstrating the scope of work and value

or

Construction Documents: Plans and other documents reflecting the scope of work, value and location

Qualifying Criteria

To qualify for the exemption, the written request must be submitted to the Collier County Building Division along with a copy of the contract or other documentation demonstrating the nature and the value of the work to be performed. The request will be reviewed by County staff and if approved a letter of exemption will be issued.

• This exemption applies only to single family detached structures

• The work may not include any structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing or gas

• A construction project may not be divided into more than one project for the purpose of evading the requirements of this exemption

• The property where the work is located may not be in a flood hazard area.

• The work must be done by the owner or a licensed contractor.

• All work shall comply with all applicable laws, ordinances, building codes and zoning regulations
