Collier County EMS to Honor Life-Saving Heroes at 2025 Phoenix Award Ceremony
Collier County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will host the biannual Phoenix Award Ceremony on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the South Regional Library, located at 8065 Lely Cultural Parkway. This event recognizes the first responders and community members whose swift actions helped save lives across Collier County.
The Phoenix Award symbolizes resilience and renewal, mirroring the mythological bird that rises from its own ashes. Collier County EMS presents this award to honor first responders from Collier County EMS, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, local fire districts, partner law enforcement agencies, and civilians who contributed to successful cardiac arrest resuscitations.
From January through June 2025, Collier County EMS responded to 258 cardiac arrests, with 36 percent of patients achieving Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC)—a rate that far exceeds the 2025 national average of less than 10 percent. During this period, 22 individuals ultimately survived, reflecting the remarkable impact of a rapid, coordinated response across the County.
A total of 190 first responders will be recognized at this year’s ceremony for their exceptional contributions to these lifesaving outcomes.
“Our success isn’t just about individual skill—it’s the result of strategic coordination across all first responder agencies in Collier County, coupled with ongoing training and the dedication of our personnel,” said EMS Chief Bruce Gastineau. “Together, we strive to give every patient the best possible health outcome.”
Collier County EMS encourages residents to learn CPR and basic first aid, as early action by bystanders can significantly increase survival and strengthen community readiness during medical emergencies.
